Childcare in Galway: Advice for Parents
Press Release - Monday, June 10th 2013 - Childcare in Galway: Advice for Parents
Choosing suitable childcare is a very important decision for all parents. As parents, you know more about your child than any other person, and when choosing a childcare service, you will want a service that meets your child’s individual needs.
Most childcare services offer excellent standards. However, if parents have any concerns about their childcare service, they should raise these issues with the Childcare Service Manager. In most cases, the Manager will take action to resolve all concerns immediately. If a parent is not satisfied with the response provided by the childcare service, they should then contact the Health Services Executive (HSE) Children and Family Services Inspectors who will investigate their concerns. The HSE continue to undertake routine inspections as well as investigations into complaints. There are 311 notified childcare services in Galway City and County. In 2012, the HSE Children and Family Services in Galway undertook 183 routine inspections, 22 follow-up visits and 30 complaint investigations. At the moment, there are five staff in Galway’s HSE Pre-school Services: a Manager, three Pre-school Service Officers and a Clerical Officer.
HSE Pre-school Services work closely with Galway City & County Childcare Committee with regard to support, training and referrals. Galway City & County Childcare Committee (www.galwaychildcare.com ) co-ordinate the development of childcare services in Galway City and County and support the quality of existing childcare services. When choosing a childcare service, parents should refer to Galway City & County Childcare Committee’s resource: Choosing Childcare: A Parent’s Guide (booklet and video available on www.galwaychildcare.com/choosing-childcare.php) or if parents have any concerns regarding the current standard of service provided, they can ask for a copy of the most recent HSE Inspection Report. Galway City & County Childcare Committee recommend that childcare services invite parents to view their HSE Inspection Report, if they have not already done so, and be prepared to address any questions raised by the report and explain the process clearly. If parents have any difficulty in accessing a service’s HSE Pre-school Inspection Report, they should contact HSE Pre-school Services at firstname.lastname@example.org or 091 775823.
