The Family Project, a 6-part RTE 1 series shown on Mondays at 7.30 p.m., is part of the new “Help My Kid Learn”( Galway City and County Childcare Committee is working with the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) to increase awareness around the wealth of resources available to increase literacy and numeracy at every level.

Each week, The Family Project features family setting out to tackle a problem that has a particular impact on them. Episode 6 was filmed in Galway and features Melissa Griffith, Family Learning Tutor at the VEC’s Galway Adult Basic Education Service (GABES). The episode will air on 24th June and Pádraig Ó Céidigh, one of Ireland most successful entrepreneurs, acts as mentor.

The Family Project showcases the educational tools and techniques that are available to all families. Not only does it show how families can work together improving collective learning, but also how they can apply these methods to activities that involve the whole family. With the passion and involvement of some of Ireland’s most respected personalities, the series will both inspire and inform families on how easy it is to enrich their lives by learning together.
So tune in every Monday night at 7.30pm on RTE 1. is an interactive resource for parents and guardians, with practical ideas for activities that support speaking, reading, writing and maths skills, developed as part of the Department of Education’s National Strategy to Improve Literacy and Numeracy among Children and Young people (2011).
