Childcare Funding Update
Funding for childcare is currently provided by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs
through three programmes:
1. Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) – Free Preschool Scheme
ECCE information for Parents
All children are entitled to a Free Preschool Year for 38-weeks a year, 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Children born between 2nd Feb 2008 and 30th June 2009 are eligible for the scheme for the school year commencing September 2012.
This service must be entirely free of charge to parents. Childcare services may charge for extra hours or additional services but there is no obligation on parents to avail of these.

38-week option only (no 50 week option)
Capitation reduced from €64.50 weekly to €62.50
2. Community Childcare Subvention (CCS) Programme
Parents in receipt of social welfare and/or medical card may avail of reduced childcare fees at participating Community Childcare Services (click here for a list of services offering CCS)
Changes to CCS scheme from September 2012
Reduction in Band A Subvention rate for parents of 5%
Band A Eligibility: Parent must be social welfare recipient and hold a medical card
3. Childcare Education & Training Support (CETS) Programme
Parents on certain FÁS and VEC courses may receive subsidised childcare at participating childcare services

Procedure for parent to avail of CETS Programme
a. Letter of eligibility from FÁS/VEC
b. Choose a service from list of childcare services offering CETS
c. Childcare service applies for a CETS place from Galway City & County Childcare Committee
From September 2012 the maximum fees for parent availing of CETS will be:
€25 for Full Day Care; €15 Part time; €5 After School; €15 After School with pick up
